Adderfang dug his claws into the earth, pulling at grass roots and using his shoulder muscles to hoist himself up onto guard hill. His back legs followed suit, latching onto where his front paws had previously been. He could have more easily gone up a different path to the top of the mound but he hadn't exercised much lately and needed to get his muscles burning again. He stretched out all of his limbs one after the other, letting the muscles tense up and then relax when he retracted his legs back to a standing, resting position. At first he was facing camp, but he turned his thin body to face the territory that SunClan had claimed.
The air was still and it was hot, one of the hottest days of newleaf. Greenleaf is right around the corner he thought to himself, his light fur thankfully reflecting most of the heat. He looked across the plain of grass and saw the heat waves rippling horizontally. He enjoyed newleaf and was sad it was coming to an end. Greenleaf was nice for the prey, but the heat was absolutely draining. He shook his head to deter some pesky bugs that were buzzing around and he sat down, his slim body tall. His long ears were pinned backwards to listen to the sounds of camp as he sat looking out over the territory. Adderfang had no plans for the day and was hoping he would see something that inspired him up on guard hill.

Morningspirit was taking a regular stroll of the grounds when she saw Adderfang. She purred, and headed over to him. "Hey," she mewed, her tail waving in a "hello" sort of way. "Are you on guard duty?" Personally, she hated being on guard duty - it was always so boring and humiliating - I mean.... When cats see you it looks like your this insane creature that's trying to meditate with your eyes open on top of this stupidly small hill, she thought. And enemy cats rarely ever intrude... Although these were her true thoughts, she tried to act like it was exciting and important to be on guard duty. Usually apprentices were the ones to guard, but sometimes warriors got "special" (blah, she though to herself) permission to take their place. To her it was just a punishment, and it was worse because the warrior hadn't broken any rule. She leaped on top of the hill beside him, standing up so that she didn't look like she was trying to meditate to other cats.
The sun was blazing hot that day, and she thanked StarClan for the thin pelt they had given her. Even with her short fur, she was finding it very hard not to pace back and forth. Standing in the sun in one spot was agonizing. She bit back a complaint and replaced it with a slight sigh.

Adderfang's ears moved back to their natural position as Morningspirit approached. Thankfully they were tall and let some heat dissipate, in the same way the ears of a fennec fox work. "No" he said shortly, not taking the time to greet her politely like she had done to him. He finally turned his head to acknowledge her and saw she looked a bit uncomfortable in the heat like he was. "I thought maybe there would be a breeze up here" he said, his angular face and squinted eyes making him look annoyed by the whole situation. He adjusted his position so his shadow fell across her body to hopefully block some heat, but didn't make a show of it. "I was wrong. It's hot anywhere" he murmured, flicking his ear at a bug again. He turned his head away from her and back onto the territory, his eyes scanning for any signs of activity.

Morningspirit nodded in agreement, awkwardly silent. She hated speaking with cats who didn't really know how to make good conversation. She really liked Adderfang, but sometimes he could be awkward to talk to. And she was especially irritated because of the sun beating down on her. She sighed, sensing a little more shade but not really knowing why. She looked around, trying to get some inspiration for a conversation. "The grass looks... nice," she said weakly, flicking her tail in embarrassment. How often did you get to speak with Adderfang and actually get an answer from him? And now that you were engaging in a "conversation", she had to mess up? Great StarClan! she thought nervously to herself.

Her comment about the grass was obviously her trying to fill in the silence that Adderfang always had floating around him. He smirked at her attempt and looked at her, seeing her body language exuding embarrassment. He wasn't sure why she felt embarrassed around him because he was always the one who made it awkward around other cats. "Yeah it does" he said, letting the smile fade back into its naturally straight line. He stood up and stretched slightly, moving his attention to the grass she spoke of. "Lets go, maybe it feels better down there" he said, hoping that was the case. He flicked his tail briefly against her shoulder as he started down the hill, before leaping to the bottom.
His long legs stretched out in front of him as they embraced the ground in his landing. His body pushed his paws into the earth as he fell on top of them, and then he stood up straight. It felt good to exercise and have a reason to be so hot than to just be melting in the sun while he was sitting. He headed towards the grass, unaware and uncaring of whether or not Morningspirit was following. His body moved swiftly over the ground, his paws appearing to hover. He was totally in his element in the long grass and flat plains of SunClan and he almost forgot about the sun beating down on his light tan back.

Adderfang's most recent sudden disappearance left Morningspirit lost in confusion. How, in the name of StarClan, did he get away from me that fast? she thought incredulously, leaping off Guard Hill. Spotting Adderfang's tail, she bounded after him. This is such weird communication... she thought. Morningspirit was quite happy to be with a Clanmate, of course, but Adderfang was much different. She felt a tingly feeling around him, which she very rudely shoved away [[her poor feelings!! lol]], but she couldn't quite shake it off. It was always there.
Catching up with her friend, she mewed a breathless "hello" like she had only just spotted him and their previous "conversation" was just a figment of the imagination. Well, Adderfang must have forgotten it, because the only way you can just randomly take off from a situation is if you're forgetting that you've forgotten... Wait no... If you're forgotten that you're forgetting... Ugh, this is stupid... Morningspirit always had stupid and meaningless thoughts when around Adderfang. She embarrassed herself most of the time. Shake it off, Morningspirit! she told herself gruffly.

Adderfang slowed down and stopped running, his chest heaving in and out with his labored breathing. His lungs felt heavy with the hot air but it felt good, and he could feel all of the blood in his ears and face rush forward as he stopped running. He didn't realize how fast he was going until Morningspirit caught up and was out of breath. He peeked his head above the grass and they had gone a good distance from the hill, which meant they had a longer trek back home, which meant more talking with Morningspirit, which meant more weird vibes he was getting from her.
Her greeting was funny to him but he didn't show it, he just acknowledged her with a flick of his ear and then he opened his mouth. He was hoping to catch the scent of prey and moved his head around. Using both his nose and his open mouth he tried to catch any scents that could be floating along in the grass. "We should bring some prey back to camp" he said kind of authoritatively, more like a command than a suggestion. He didn't mean for it to come out that way but shrugged it off and waited for her to do something else that showed her lack of comfort in his attempt at a social situation. With this thought he lowered his head and snorted in amusement but almost immediately snapped his neck back up straight and looked forward, making it look like he was still sniffing for prey.

Morningspirit was rather annoyed with how he was handling the whole situation. First he basically ignored her, and then he took off, and then he commanded her to catch some prey. And she could tell that he was hiding something. She was - there was no other word for it - disgusted with him. I mean, yes, she wanted to be his friend, but she hated cats like this... She shrugged it off and sniffed around for prey.
OOC; Again, sorry for short post.

When Morningspirit didn't say anything, Adderfang felt a pang in his chest. He knew he wasn't much of a conversationalist but Morningspirit was usually very happy and friendly and now she was quiet and seemed kind of off. He tried to shrug it off, lowering his head to the ground to sniff it. He could smell a rabbit nearby but didn't want to be the one to take charge since he already felt like he was bossing her around a little too much.
Closing his eyes and sighing brie hefly raised his head from its lowered position, his tail laying limply behind him. He turned to look at her and his body relaxed from his previous hunting posture. "Is everything okay?" he asked, his voice nervous and apprehensive. Adderfang was awful at expressing his emotions or feeling empathy with those around him but he was going to try since Morningspirit was at least trying to be his friend. He ignored the rabbit scent and instead watched her with his blue eyes, trying to read her body language.

Morningspirit felt a tiny purr rumbling inside her, so she took advantage of it and exaggerated it. She was still a little uncomfortable, but she felt calmer now that Adderfang had tried to make her feel better. She waved her tail to exaggerate her contentment. "Yes, I'm fine!" she said, acting overly happy. She was being extremely weird now. She started to heat up in embarrassment. This is going all wrong! she thought to herself. Suddenly the scent of rabbit came to her senses. Wanting to sort of change subject, she flicked her tail in its direction. "Let's do it together," Morningspirit mewed. She didn't feel like using the rabbit fishing technique because it wasn't necessary to get the rabbit, and plus, it would probably take a while. Even rabbits knew that it was healthy to get a bit of sun, so none of them would be in their burrows. So she just used the regular rabbit hunting technique - the race. She liked taking control of patrols, but didn't want to seem like a know-it-all. However, she had scented the rabbit first. Oh well, she shrugged to herself. She positioned her tail parallel to the ground and swept it over the grass [spread out]. She was only with Adderfang, but it was good to practice tail signals. She crept slowly down the shallow hill that the two cats had reached. The rabbit was about five fox lengths away. She rippled her tail

Adderfang watched her disposition change from being uncomfortable to being overly happy and was glad he asked if everything was okay, even if she was exaggerating her emotions. He noticed that she scented the rabbit and he twitched his nose to push away a smile. He loved to show off his running and hunting skills but figured he didn't have to be much of a show off around her. He watched her tail signalling to him and was glad she wanted to work together. He crouched down and crawled away from her, going to attack the rabbit from a different direction. Once he was perpendicular with Morningspirit he watched for her tail to signal him to go. His paws kneaded the ground slowly in anticipation; he loved to chase.
Morningspirit took off and Adderfang let her run for a couple of seconds before he joined. As he sprinted from the left side of the rabbit he forced it to make a turn to the right, and now he and Morningspirit were running parallel to each other about a fox-lengths away. He too noticed the size of the rabbit and was now especially eager to catch it. His head was extended far out past his shoulders and his entire body was fairly streamlined. As he ran forward his forehead was poked with grass and he tilted his head down slightly to protect his eyes. He wasn't running at full speed but in this heat he didn't want to expend too much energy so far from camp.
The rabbit made a quick move to the left to try and juke the cats out but, as if a cheetah were hunting a gazelle, Adderfang moved exactly the same as the rabbit. He didn't want to catch it because he wanted to watch Morningspirit do it, so he just continued to chase without making any real moves on the prey. He turned his head slightly to watch her while she ran, the rest of his body still facing forward towards the rabbit.

Morningspirit sniffed in disgust as the rabbit veered away. Selfish idiot! she thought to herself, even though she knew that any smart creature would try to shake off their pursuers. She immediately switched directions and made a wide circle around the rabbit, going as fast as she could to be ahead of her prey. Morningspirit was now about three foxlengths in front of the rabbit, but she and the rabbit together were closing the gap fast. The warrior was racing headfirst toward her prey. When she was about a foxlength away, Morningspirit leaped. As the rabbit hopped about it its stupid way of "running", Morningspirit's jump gave her enough time to cover the distance between her and the rabbit and land more or less squarely on its shoulders. She bit down on the rabbit's rump, and it made an odd, rabbity-like squealing sound (Morningspirit snickered at it) and immediately fell to the ground. Morningspirit's weight was enough to keep it pinned as she slowly turned around so as not to make it in any way possible for her prey to escape. She swiftly bit down on its neck, watched the blood seep away (she didn't break its neck, which was less cruel than watching it die because she wanted to watch it drift slowly away to the heavens), and then proudly picked it up. The rabbit made one last and quite rude kick to Morningspirit's neck (more painfully, her Adam's apple). The warrior gagged on the kick a little bit, but nevertheless as proud as ever. The rabbit was quite large, but she didn't dare to say it out loud in case Adderfang thought she was boasting - although, anyone could be boasting with her expression.
One think Morningspirit did not like about the warrior code at all was the fact that warriors weren't allowed to eat their rightfully claimed piece of prey. After all, they were the ones that caught it. Although she understood the importance and intentions of the particular law were perfectly perfect and were 100% reasonable, she couldn't push down her wish to eat the prey she caught. Once, when she was an apprentice, she and her friend (later enemy) Mallowpaw were hunting beyond the ridge of SunClan's slope, where no one from the top of the hill or behind could see them. Morningspirit caught a delightful piece of prey, the biggest she had seen in a long time. Her young mind was rather silly and stupid, warping her thoughts to make her not feel the normal urge to show her Clanmates what a great hunter she was. Instead, her only thought was "You deserve this catch! Just eat it and no one will know!" Well, she told Mallowpaw her idea, and of course Mallowpaw disapproved. "Of course you can't do that!" Morningspirit remembered her friend saying. "Someone's gonna find out, I guarantee you." But Morningspirit had ignored her, and ate the prey. The next morning the leader took Morningspirit out of the den and gave her a deep talking-to, as well as spilling the beans that Mallowpaw had told him about her breaking the warrior code. Leaders don't understand friendships, Morningspirit remembered thinking to herself that long-ago morning. If they did, Stormstar wouldn't have told me that Mallowpaw ratted me out! But, of course, Morningspirit didn't mind at all. She, from that day on, ignored Mallowpaw until....
Well, look at me! Morningspirit grumbled to herself. Getting carried away by my thoughts again..... She shook her head, trying to get rid of her silly memories. Although that particular memory did have a very good moral (don't break the warrior code because Adderfang might rat you out), she had no business in remembering that terrible fight that she and Mallowpaw had had. Her deadly secret was something she hadn't thought about for a long time. She shook her head, very glad no other cats could read her thoughts. If they did, she would be in exile in no time. It was a horrible mistake of hers... She was young and stupid. She shook her head again, and brought herself back to reality. She was holding the rabbit in her jaws, staring unfocused at Adderfang, and standing with one back foot in the air (which usually happened when she was in deep thought). She hastily lowered her foot and looked away from Adderfang. "We should probably go back."

ooc: that's totally fine with me, write away!
Adderfang chased after Morningspirit and the rabbit, slowing down when she managed to catch it. He watched her struggle slightly with the large rabbit, its kick to her throat making her choke slightly. "Big rabbit" he mewed, smiling and walking up to her. The smile dissipated quickly as usual, and he watched Morningspirit closely. She seemed irritated by something and he was confused; when he asked her if she was fine just before they started hunting she seemed happy and enthusiastic about her answer. Now it seemed like something was on her mind. "Seriously, are you okay?" he asked, watching her foot lower to the ground. It seemed as though she was in deep thought and he knew he wouldn't be the best to give advice if that was what she wanted, but he was a good listener. His voice gave away the fact that he was uncomfortable with this situation but he genuinely cared about his clan-mates. "We don't have to go back right away, if you don't want" he said, trying to sound comforting and friendly and looking back at camp quickly. This was the first time in a while he got any one on one interaction with someone and he wanted to take advantage of it even though he wasn't too comfortable in such a situation. He turned his head back to look at her again and tilted it slightly, his eyes watching her intently. He squinted slightly in the sun, the heat warming up the gray mask on his face. His body was tense and his tail twitched idly behind him while he waited for her. He was not a social cat but he wanted to make more personal relationships with his clan-mates, especially because he was next in line for the leader position. Even if she didn't want to talk about whatever it was she was thinking about, he wanted to keep hanging out with her despite how weird she was acting today.

Morningspirit forced a purr. "Ya, I'm... I'm fine. There was just something in my past that... I'm not all that proud of. The memory comes back once and a while, but if I ignore it I'll be okay. What do you wanna do?" She thought that the short explanation was good enough to soothe anyone's curiosity. It told them everything they needed to know except for what the actual memory was. And it was %100 the truth.

Adderfang was unprepared for her to say yes to staying out with him and he looked around kind of nervously. Finally he rested his eyes on guard hill where it all started and he let out a breath he had been holding. Instead of addressing her confession to what had been troubling her he ignored it, figuring it was best to drop the subject. "We should patrol" he said with a kind of authority, standing slightly taller with his words. He didn't see any other cats out when he was up on the hill and figured that if they were already out they might as well do as much as they could. "We can bury the rabbit and then go" he suggested, taking half a step closer to her. The tomcat began to paw at the ground to start a hole but didn't totally commit himself until she agreed. Adderfang kept his claws sheathed and made small impressions in the moist earth, his eyes focused on the ground but his ears tilted forward waiting for Morningspirit to respond.

Morningspirit nodded. "Sure." She helped Adderfang dig the whole and dropped her rabbit in the hole. She scraped the earth back onto it, and padded it down so that a predator wouldn't be able to tell that something was buried. She smiled at Adderfang and padded toward the SunClan-DappleClan border. She scented the nearest marking bush and started to head along the border.
OOC: I think we need something exciting to happen, don't you?

ooc: agreed! either a cat from another clan or a predator of some type could be interesting. unfortunately my DappleClan warrior is too docile for any confrontation lol. my ThornClan medicine cat has a little attitude though!
Adderfang followed suit and walked alongside the she-cat, keeping his eyes fixed on her while he walked forward. His shoulders rolled underneath his thin pelt and his haunches bounced behind him as he picked up the pace. His mouth stayed slightly open to help catch any scents, but he wasn't too worried. SunClan territory wasn't easy to sneak into since it was just an open plain, and SunClan cats were really the only ones who knew how to be stealthy in the tall grass. Patrols were always necessary, however, because as soon as you let your guard down anything could happen. He turned his narrow face to look forward as they hugged the border and he kept himself closest to the DappleClan side. "So.." he started to say awkwardly, unsure of how to make small talk. "What's your favorite thing to do?" he asked, his head tilting to the side slightly and his eyes looking anywhere but at her. He knew that question was way too broad and totally out of nowhere, kind of like when an older person is trying to get to know someone young and hip and can't relate at all. Only this time, it was just someone who didn't take the time to ever get to know anyone so it was like he never learned how. He didn't want to seem weak and uncomfortable so he straightened his body up and stared dead ahead, his gaze focused on the imaginary line that made up the border. He tried to exude confidence but inside his heart was beating quickly and he was afraid she could hear it.

ooc; I have Fernstrike from DappleClan! I'll roleplay her after your next post if you want ic; Glad that Adderfang was sort of opening up to be friendly, Morningspirit replied,"Well, I really like chasing things." She purred in laughter, remembering chasing her littermates around the nursery when she was younger. "It gives me a sense of power, and I love adrenaline. But I also like basking in the sun - it feels really good. If I'm ever tired but can't go to sleep I usually try to find a sunny spot. So... I dunno! I guess it depends on what mood I'm in. I'm usually in an active mood, so anything that gets me going is something that I like. What about you?" She actually almost expected him to say "I like being solitary", but told herself no one, not even Adderfang, would say that. She laughed to herself again.

ooc: sounds good, i can always add in Maplewing.
Adderfang was slightly surprised at how eager she was to talk now. Maybe it was the way he was acting earlier (unfortunately his usual self) that made her act weird around him, but he was glad she seemed to be happier for the time being, and that he managed to get that bad memory off of her mind. Adderfang listened to her and found himself making a small smile at her excited speaking. When she asked him what he liked to do he kind of slowed half a step and the smile dissipated quickly. What do I like to do? he thought to himself, hearing her laughing at something but not catching what. "I guess I like to run and I like to just..watch things" he said, kind of embarrassed at his answer. Watch things? what kind of answer was that? the voice in his head was saying, but he tried to ignore it. At this point it was probably obvious to Morningspirit what his answer really meant, which was that he preferred to be alone with his thoughts, but he didn't want to just outright say it. He looked away without adding anything else to the conversation and his skinny tail twitched behind him nervously as they walked. He sniffed the air for a second, as he had been doing this whole time, but this time he caught something in the air. He touched Morningspirit with his tail to signal to her and he stopped walking, waiting for her to catch the scent too.

Morningspirit purred understandingly. She had watched Adderfang before (with that same weird tingly feeling that she always tried to push away), and noticed that he never seemed to be with company. She always tried not to make it obvious that she was looking at him, but she couldn't tear her eyes away. There was something about him that just... sort of... attracted her. She didn't LIKE him in that LIKE way, though. At least I think I don't... she frowned to herself. She was about to say something else, but then caught a strange scent a milli-second before Adderfang touched her shoulder with his tail. She stiffened up, drinking in the scent. "DappleClan..." she murmured to him. She tried to tell herself it was just another patrol, but the scent had a twinge of stealth to it, and she knew for some unknown reason that there was only one other cat.
~
Fernstrike sniffed the air. The strange grass in SunClan territory was now surrounding her. It's so weird! she thought to herself. The stiff blades kept spiking her sleek, thin fur, and she was afraid it would draw blood. She shook herself every two steps as quietly as possible so as not to alert any SunClan cats. She sniffed the air again. The disgusting, dry smell of SunClan was everywhere, but there was something else there too.... It smelled like SunClan, of course, but it had some sort of aroma to it that reminded her of something... well... real. She stiffened, her back as straight as a the fallen Twoleg fence in ThornClan territory. She crouched low in the tall grass, thanking StarClan for once for the wonderful cover they had given SunClan, however annoying. She felt extremely exposed with her bright green eyes and yellow dappled pelt. It fit her well in DappleClan - the green blended in with the leaves and the dappled yellow blended with the sun that slanted through the trees and, of course, appeared as dappled spots. Now her perfect camouflage coat was turning against her. She should have planned ahead...
The fur on her haunches stuck up in the preparation of the fight. Her adrenaline was telling her to make the first move of the fight or turn tail and run. The latter was horribly cowardly, but the first option was horribly risky. She would have broken another law of the warrior code - do not attack a cat in their own territory. She already broke the very main rule (no trespassing onto another cat's territory), so she didn't think it was worth it. She would be deeply punished if she was found. So she stayed low and waited for the SunClan cats (she decided that that's who represented the smell) to make the first move.
